A Good Day Out... The Yorkshire Dales Moorland Groups Inaugural, Hector Kirk Moorland Cup Event.

On the 31st March, bacon roll in hand, The Dog and Field Team set off to steward and help run The Yorkshire Dales Moorland Groups Inaugural Hector Kirk Charity Cup Event. To say it was slightly wet would be an understatement. The rain/sleet came at us sideways all day and so the 55 dogs, competitors and spectators (over 100 people) had a day to remember and contend with! However we did it and wow what a success, I had a fantastic day.
We wanted to say a huge Well Done and Thank You to Sonya Wiggins the Coordinator of YDMG. The day ran smoothly and we loved being part of the prize team to show what dedication is being put out there to educate children about the array of plants and animals found on our rural doorstep.
We started with a briefing from the Head Gamekeeper, Mr Wiggins, of Conistone and Grassington Estate, Sonya Wiggins Husband. The day consisted of 3 retriever and spaniel tests which to add a bit of spice, were set up by members of our very own current England Retriever Team. It was a rare treat for the novices running to see what really is wanted from A panel judges. It was great to see such generosity to run this positive event.
It was a great day. I truly enjoyed it and look forward to sponsoring the future YDMG events. Thank you for looking after us so well Yorkshire Dales Moorland Group, we will be back!
Finally a special Thank You to all the dummy throwers, tea makers and helpers. These days can not happen without this unconditional support.
Also Mollie Lord - the images were amazing. Thank you for letting us use them here to show case what a great day it truly was in these conditions. You captured the day wonderfully.
Congratulations to the Winners...
Damon Ross who won the novice with a cocker spaniel Ted.
David Ross who won the open with his spaniel Ffynonlas Smudge.
Team "The three dogs" Glynn Sykes, David Sidwell, Ralph Thompson who won the Hector Kirk Challenge Cup in the retriever test.
We also had a trophy made in memory of Jimmy Swindlehurst for the highest scoring dog and that went to Antony Appleton with his dog Mossboroough Chub of Applebriar.
