Ellie Close



In July 2016 we welcomed Ellie Close to the Dog & Field team and we are immensely looking forward to supporting and following Ellie’s progress. Ellie, who at the tender age of just 6 years old has already achieved so much with her two Spaniels Meg and Bernie and is sure to be a dog handling star of the future.

Having qualified for the Chudleys Junior Gundog Championship Final back in September at The Midland Game Fair Ellie then went on to run in her first working test held at Chatsworth as part of the Kennel Club Gundog weekend. Ellie ran her Springer Spaniel Meg and they both preformed fantastically achieving a Certificate of Merit.
Ellie recently competed at The Scottish Game Fair at the beginning of July and yet again had great success. Ellie and her Spaniels were tested and judged on retrieves on both land and water and shone through winning a 1st and 2nd.

It is great to have the opportunity support the next generation of dog handlers and we at Dog & Field hope that Ellie continues to progress and most importantly enjoys training, working and running her Spaniels in scurries and tests. I am very sure that in the not so distant future we will see this young girl running with the best of them in trials up and down the country.

This week we visited Lee and Victoria at the Breckmarsh Kennels to discuss our Christmas Plans.  While we were there we went out to look at Lee's latest litter of pups and I asked him how he starts the initial training with them. I was intrigued to see how Lee starts training his young dogs and hopefully pick up a tip or two. With many of us having brought new pups this year, including myself, a little one-to-one training from Lee was never going to hurt! The Weekend That Saw The Trialling Community Come Together

The weekend that saw the trialling community come together. So the sad news has filtered down the grapevine over the last few weeks, Richard Preest a well thought of man who has been an asset to the trialling community for the last decade has had a severe stroke paralysing him from the neck down, leaving him unable to speak and in a very uncertain way in hospital. Starting his own line of Centrewalk cocker spaniels and reaching the heights of a championship win in 2016 Richard has had a lot of success with the cockers, namely FT Ch Centrewalk Daydream, Moonshell, Sweep and Piccolo. Richard hasn’t been shy in donating his time to judge trials and being an avid member of his local gundog club, Bristol and West Working Gundog Society, he is well liked among his peers.
